Matt Olshefski, Superintendent of the Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School renovation project, recently visited Wheeler faculty member Cheryl Michaud's fourth grade class to show and discuss a major Lego project he worked on for four months depicting downtown Hartford.

The After School Program at Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School is off to a great start! As part of the program, 18 Wheeler students are participating in a MakerSpace program with activities. The students are working in small groups to problem solve, create, and share their thinking.

Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School fifth grade students Tiffany Dennis and Emma Porteus, were recently honored at the annual Connecticut Association of School’s Celebration of the Arts Banquet. Tiffany and Emma were nominated for their award by Wheeler Music Teacher Veronica Brendel and Wheeler Art Teacher Laura Reed.

Students in Laura Reed’s Art classes at Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School created an eagle mural to honor all Veterans for their service. Students traced and cut their hand images to create the eagle's feathers. They also wrote a message or drew a picture to thank the Veterans.

The Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School community held their first Cardboard Challenge "Day of Play" event on October 10th. The Cardboard Challenge is an event inspired by "Caine's Challenge,"

The Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School’s Student Council recently held a “Super Hero Day” where students and staff donated one dollar to dress up as a super hero.

Students in grades K-5 at Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School celebrated Youth Art Month in March by using a week of art class to collaborate among grade levels to create a mural about cultural awareness.

The Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) recently held a “Pawtastic Pet” themed spring book fair, where families made donations to support the local animal shelter at the Plainville Police Department.

The Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School community’s Read Across America Week Celebration included daily events such as storybook character day, One Fish Two Fish Day, Fox in Sox Day, and more, culminating on Friday, March 2nd, with a myriad of activities centered on reading.

Students in all grades at Wheeler School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October15) by learning about Hispanic artists and art traditions from Hispanic countries.
