UBI Federal Credit Union Supports Adult Education Program With Scholarship

Plainville Adult and Continuing Education is pleased to announce that UBI Federal Credit Union has awarded a $500 scholarship to support an eligible graduate of the Adult High School Credit Diploma Program or GED Preparation Program in pursuing college, technical, or trade school.

Plainville High School Launches New Trade Academy to Prepare Students for High Demand Careers

Plainville High School is proud to announce the launch of its new Trade Academy, a four-year program designed to prepare students for successful careers in the skilled trades, including carpentry, electrical, and HVACR. The Plainville High School Trade Academy was made possible through the support of a dynamic “funder collaborative” - a group of state and local funders, including the State of Connecticut, Main Street Community Foundation, Farmington Bank Community Foundation, the Petit Family Foundation, the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, and the American Savings Bank Foundation, who have generously provided financial support for the program.

Camp Invention At PCS!

Learning, fun and exploration continues for a group of Plainville's upcoming fifth and sixth grade students this summer through the Camp Invention program held at Linden Street School June 29th - July 2nd. Overseen by district Elementary Math and Science Instructional Leader Jessica Cochrane, students from all three Plainville elementary schools are enjoying the dynamic program that focuses on creativity, innovation and real-world problem solving. Through hands-on, interactive STEM activities, children collaborate to design prototypes , explore scientific concepts, and build confidence in their own ideas. The program is facilitated by Plainville Community Schools faculty members Amy Moreau, Sarah Marci, Samantha Woodward, and Meghan Ray.

Plainville Community Schools has named Louis Toffolon Elementary School Preschool Teacher, Rachel Valentine, as the 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year. Valentine was nominated by colleagues, Anastasia Speakman and Elspeth Hayden.

Ubi Student Financial Center Opens at Plainville High School

A new “UBI Student Financial Center” officially opened at Plainville High School on May 11th, with a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the milestone. The credit union branch, affiliated with the UBI Federal Credit Union, offers a variety of services for Plainville students and staff including account opening, learning real-world banking skills, understanding what an ATM is and how it works, and building smart money habits for the future. Additionally, Plainville High School students will have the opportunity to be considered for internship and job shadow opportunities related to the credit union operations.

Town Wide Art Show!

The Plainville Community Schools Fine Arts Department is sponsoring their annual town wide art show to honor the creative achievements of Plainville students. The Plainville Public Library has generously provided exhibition space for the show throughout the library. The art show is open to the public through May 20th during regular library hours.

PHS Tri-M Honor Society Members Attend Tri-M Day Event at CMEA Conference

On March 27th, members of the Plainville High School Tri-M Music Honor Society attended the inaugural Tri-M Day at the Hartford Convention Center. Held during the Connecticut Music Educators Association’s (CMEA) annual All-State Conference, the event featured performances by the state’s top high school musicians, collegiate workshops, and leadership keynotes. The Plainville High School student group collaborated with peers from across the state to brainstorm ways to strengthen the high school's music community.

Plainville High School won the Vocabulary.com national "Vocabulary Bowl" for Fall, 2025 for the state of Connecticut! PHS ranked #1 among Connecticut high schools, #49 among high schools nationwide, and #91 among all schools in the United States!

PHS Announces First Questbridge Scholar

Plainville High School senior, Ayo Ayodele, has been named a QuestBridge National College Match Scholar, matching with Boston College for a full, four-year scholarship including tuition, room, board and fees, according to Principal, Jennifer DeLorenzo. Ayodele is the first Plainville High School student to become a QuestBridge Scholar.

 


June PCS All Stars

The June Plainville Community Schools "All-Star" award winner, Linden Street School Office Professional and PTO Co-President, Nicole Michaud, was recognized at the June 8th Board of Education meeting. The “All-Star” award recognizes students, faculty, staff and community members who go above and beyond in modeling the school district’s Portrait of the Graduate characteristics and demonstrating excellence in alignment with the school district's goals.
