The Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School community’s Read Across America Week Celebration included daily events such as storybook character day, One Fish Two Fish Day, Fox in Sox Day, and more, culminating on Friday, March 2nd, with a myriad of activities centered on reading. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program sponsored by the National Education Association that celebrates reading on March 2nd, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss. Wheeler faculty and staff members decorated backdrops of Dr. Seuss stories in the gymnasium, parents and community members read in classrooms, and both parents and staff members coordinated fun activities for students in the gym throughout the day. In addition, students in the Plainville High School Drama Club, together with club advisor and high school faculty member TJ Riccardo, engaged Wheeler fourth and fifth grade students in a Readers Theater event and other related reading activities!
