Qualifications
The School Counselor holds a master's degree in school counseling from an accreditate college or university, and meet the certification requirements for initial educator or higher from the Connecticut State Department of Education.
Professionalism
The school counselors adhere to the ethical standards of the Connecticut Counseling Association (CCA), the Connecticut School Counselor Association (CSCA), and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and to preferred practices prescribed by state and national school counselor associations. They demonstrate knowledge of local policies, and state and federal laws pertaining to school counseling, and they pursue personal growth and professional development.

The Plainville School Counseling Program addresses the developmental needs of all students as they prepare for meaningful and rewarding lives as productive members of a changing society. The Plainville School Counseling Program acknowledges that each student possesses intrinsic worth and has a unique and dynamic learning style, thereby, fostering the individual potential of every student in the areas of academic, career, personal and social development. Through a planned, sequential program of individual, group and classroom activities the students will develop positive attitudes and skills in the areas of self-awareness, interpersonal relationships, educational and career awareness, goal setting and decision-making. These interventions are proactive and preventative in nature. Responsive services are available to meet the immediate needs of the students.
